Everyone knows that diabetics need to avoid taking in sugar. But did you know that carbohydrates can actually spike blood sugar levels more than sugar?
Studies have shown that cereals, breads, and grains are high-glycemic food sources. Being such, they get converted into glucose too quickly, raising blood sugar levels. Some diabetics -- or those at risk of diabetes -- try to "avoid" this tendency by switching to "healthier" alternatives, such as whole-wheat bread.

Unfortunately, it's also been found that whole-wheat bread is just as likely to spike blood sugar levels as white bread is. There's actually no such thing as a "low-glycemic" grain product -- if it has carbohydrates (especially the refined types), it poses a diabetes risk.
These findings reinforce the fact that we need to switch back to an organic plant-based diet, and disregard the grain-based one that the flawed Food Guide Pyramid suggests. Ever since people took the food pyramid's advice and ate 6-11 servings of carbohydrates a day, rates for obesity, heart disease, and diabetes began rising year after year after year!
